Tax credits: Congress has extended an $8000 tax credit for qualified first-time home buyers and added a $6500 tax credit for existing homeowners who have been residing in their principal residence for five consecutive years. The eligibility period for the tax credit is for homes purchased after the date the legislation was enacted and before May 1, 2010. However, home purchases subject to a binding sales contract signed prior to April 30, 2010 will qualify for the tax credit provided closing occurs prior to July 1, 2010. And, don't forget that Kentucky is offering a $5,000 New Home Buyer State Tax Credit for qualified buyers if purchased before July 24, 2010.
